ASSOCIATE STATE ARCHAEOLOGIST/ BAY AREA DISTRICT/ CULTURAL RESOURCES PROGRAM
The primary reporting location is the Bay Area District Office, 845 Casa Grande Road, Petaluma, California 94954, however, this position will be assigned tasks throughout the district. The Associate State Archeologist is assigned to the Cultural Resources Program in the Bay Area District and works under the general direction of the Supervisor, Cultural Resources Program. The incumbent will function as the district expert on archaeological matters and will also serve as the District Tribal Liaison. The position is responsible for planning and implementing programs and projects to preserve and enhance the archaeological resources throughout the district park units. The Associate State Archeologist is responsible for the identification, inventory, investigation, protection, and management of cultural resources. The incumbent must be able to manage multiple tasks at a time, adapt to changes in priorities, and complete tasks with short notice.
The incumbent should be willing to become certified in wildland fire, at minimum receiving qualification of Firefighter II and Resource Advisor (READ), with training provided by State Parks. The Associate State Archeologist responds to wildfire incidents on State Park lands as a READ and participates in the response to other incidents that threaten resources in parks.

This position requires a background investigation including livescan fingerprinting of criminal history prior to being hired.This position is designated as telework eligible- office centered.

Administrative work will be in a climate-controlled office under artificial lighting. Fieldwork requires the ability to work in a variety of climatic and geographical conditions. Frequent travel and fieldwork are required. The Bay Area District park units are spread out over a large geographical area, requiring the need for some extended periods of driving.
